Man Crossing Long Island Roadway Critically Injured After Being Hit By Vehicle

Police are investigating a crash in which a man crossing a Long Island roadway was critically injured after being hit by a vehicle.

It happened around 2:15 p.m. Friday, April 15 in Hempstead.

The pedestrian, in his 30s, was crossing South Franklin Street, eastbound to westbound, in the vicinity of Elm Street when he was struck by a 2019 Nissan being operated by a 36-year-old woman, who was traveling southbound, Nassau County Police said. 

The operator of the vehicle remained at the scene. 

The pedestrian sustained serious physical injuries and was transported to an area hospital, said police. He is in critical but stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing.
